Question 1

Is B1 or B2 needed for Ausbildung in Germany?

Accepted Answer

For a qualified (dual) Ausbildung the visa standard is B1. Healthcare and nursing training usually need B2. Many employers prefer B2 even when B1 is the legal minimum, because vocational school is fully in German. A preparatory-course route can start at A2. Verify the exact level with your German mission and training company.

Question 2

Which exam certificate is accepted for an Ausbildung visa?

Accepted Answer

Goethe-Institut, telc, and ÖSD certificates are accepted by German missions for the Ausbildung visa. telc and Goethe at B1/B2 are the most commonly requested. Always check your specific mission's accepted-certificate list before booking.

Question 3

What is the German nursing exam called?

Accepted Answer

People mean one of two exams. One German language exam built for nurses is telc Deutsch B1·B2 Pflege. The exam that tests your nursing knowledge is the Kenntnisprüfung Pflege, for nurses trained outside the EU whose training differs from the German one.

Question 4

What German level do I need to apply as a nurse in Germany?

Accepted Answer

Since March 2024 the published floor for the recognition-partnership visa is A2 German. The law requires 'sufficient German', and for nurses specifically several states and recognition authorities expect B1 at the application stage, so plan for B1. To actually get your nursing licence you need B2 plus, in most states, a Fachsprachprüfung Pflege. Verify the exact level with your destination state's recognition authority.

Question 5

Is telc B1·B2 Pflege the right nursing exam?

Accepted Answer

Yes. telc Deutsch B1·B2 Pflege is the dedicated nursing exam; it covers the B1 and B2 nursing-language range and cannot be taken as a partial exam. Goethe B2 and ÖSD B2 are also accepted in many German states. Which providers count is set state-by-state, so confirm with your recognition authority.

Question 6

Which German exam do doctors need in Germany?

Accepted Answer

The Fachsprachprüfung (FSP), a C1 medical German test run by your state's medical chamber. FIA says some states accept its PKT instead for some degrees. You may also need the Kenntnisprüfung: until 31 October 2026 when your training differs from German training, and from 1 November 2026 as the normal route for degrees from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland.

Question 7

Is the PKT the same as the FSP?

Accepted Answer

No. The FSP is run by the state chamber. The PKT is a test by FIA. FIA says some states accept it instead: for EU degrees in Hamburg and Hesse, and for all degrees in Saarland (PKT Medicine). Your licensing authority decides.

Question 8

What German level do I need to study at a German university?

Accepted Answer

For German-taught degrees the standard is C1-level proof: TestDaF TDN 4, DSH-2, Goethe-Zertifikat C1 or C2, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, or ÖSD C1/C2. Some programs accept B2; medicine and law often need C2 or DSH-3. English-taught degrees usually do not require German for admission. Always check the program's own admission page.
