About Goethe-Zertifikat B1

What it is: The Goethe-Institut's German certificate at level B1.
Level: B1Intermediate. You can follow clear everyday German at work, school and while travelling.
Who needs it: Adults who need B1 German proof, for example for a settlement permit or naturalisation. The certificate is the language proof, not the permit. Ausbildung (vocational training) visa: B1 is the usual level, unless the training company tested your German itself. Settlement permit: 'sufficient German' in the law means B1. German citizenship: B1 German is a requirement.
Who runs it: Goethe-Institut and its licensed partner centres
Format: Four modules: reading 65 min, listening about 40 min, writing 60 min, speaking about 15 min in pairs with 15 min to prepare. You can take modules separately or together. Pass mark 60% per module.
How to register: Through the Goethe-Institut webshop of this centre. Booking opens on the date shown and closes at the deadline shown.
Seats: Goethe does not publish seat counts.
Results: Your Goethe centre tells you when results are published. The certificate has no expiry date. The receiving office may ask for a recent one.
Study time: Typical guidance: 350 to 650 lessons of 45 minutes (Goethe).
